Taken with Olympus mju 770 and want to upgrade to a DSLR

I am looking to get into surf landscapes. I'd appreciate any advice on where to start - I've been looking at the Canon 50D.

Basically it is not bad, but I think you need more practice, the picture is not really interesting. Also, a better device would be a good idea.

Fast camera for action
by: Digital SLR Guide

If you want to capture actual shots of surfers in action, then you're going to need one of the faster digital SLRs to do it.

If you're just looking to take pictures with surfers in the background (landscapes) then the high speed is not as necessary.

For action photography, some cameras to consider include the Nikon D90, Pentax K-7, Canon 50D and the Olympus E-3.

Both the Pentax K-7 and the Olympus E-3 are weather sealed, which might help if you often have them close to ocean spray.

Slower alternatives - if you don't intend to take a lot of action shots - include the Canon 450D, Nikon D60, Pentax K200D or the Olympus E-620.

All of these cameras are more geared for beginning DSLR photographers and don't have quite the same number of controls (or the price tag) of the faster cameras.
