How I Do Digital SLR Camera Reviews

Non-technical Digital SLR Story Time

Latest Digital SLR Review

canon eos 350d

The Canon EOS Rebel XT

There are a ton of web sites that do digital SLR camera reviews.

They walk you through every camera feature step-by-step, and tell you exactly how the camera works, looks and feels.

It's the next best thing to holding the camera in your hand.

These technical digital SLR camera reviews are fantastic and I use them all the time to help get a sense of a camera that I am interested in.

However, there are three things that I do differently here at the Digital SLR Guide that might make a difference for you.

I'm Non-Technical

Every one of my digital SLR camera reviews is presented in a non-technical manner. No charts, no graphs, no paragraphs filled with numbers.

Instead, I tell you a story. The story is all about my actual experience using the camera and taking photos with it.

Call it a real-world test, call it practical advice. Either way, I won't tell you the same thing you'll hear from those other sites.

I'll tell you what it's really like to use the camera for every-day photography.

And I'll tell you in a way that doesn't overwhelm your brain and make you go running for the Excedrin.

Think of each one of my digital SLR camera reviews as a fable - digital SLR story time where you can sit back, relax, and find out just how these cameras really work.

I'm Not Biased

What digital SLR camera would you like reviewed?

Take a 1-Minute Poll

This site is neither supported nor produced by any one of the big camera manufacturers.

What does that mean?

It means that each and every digital SLR camera review that I write is unbiased. I don't have any preferences for camera makes and models - I just want to find cameras that really work.

If a camera has strange controls or difficult menus or feels odd in your hand, I'll let you know about it.

I don't have to tell you that every camera is great, and that every digital SLR works like a charm. I will not give every camera a 5 star rating.

I am trying to help you make up your mind, and if I just tell you that they are all perfect, that doesn't help you in any way.

Think of me like the inspector for your new home. I am here to get in the crawlspace, inspect the foundation and tell you about every crack, flaw and minor imperfection.

With any luck, you won't get an expensive digital SLR that is a fixer-upper.

I Love Taking Photos

It's Q and A time here at the Digital SLR Guide.

  • How do you evaluate a home? Visit it.
  • How do you evaluate a car? Drive it.
  • How do you evaluate a digital SLR camera? Take photos with it.

Each one of my digital SLR camera reviews is going to include photos - as many photos as I can pack onto the page.

The best way for you to choose a digital SLR is to use it yourself: hold it, carry it around, take lots of photos.

The second best way is for you is to see lots of photos taken by the camera and decide if you like the way they look.

Every photo that I take and post to this site will NOT be manipulated in any way. The photos will appear as the camera took them, and I am going to put each camera through its paces.

You will see how each camera's light meter works, how it reproduces color, and how well it focuses on moving targets.

You won't be seeing a lot of photos of supermodels and perfectly-lit scenes. I will use the camera as anyone would to take snapshots of everyday events.

If you get bored with all of the dog and baby pictures, I apologize in advance.

Get Started With The Reviews

I hope that you're ready to get started with the digital SLR camera reviews. I enjoy writing them, and will continue to add more to the site as new cameras are released.

Without any further ado - for your reading pleasure - here are my digital SLR camera reviews.
