What is the best Canon digital SLR camera around $500.00

I was reading your website about the Cannon EOS 50D. This camera sounds great but is more than I want to spend. I am recently getting into taking photos so I don't need the camera for professional purposes. I do like the qualities of the EOS 50D just cheaper. Is there anything similar in my price range?

Canon Rebel XS 1000D
by: Digital SLR Guide

The only Canon digital SLR that comes close to the $500 price mark is the Canon Rebel XS 1000D.

If you don't want a lot of fancy extras, then this is a great option from the Canon line of DSLR cameras.

Its 10 megapixels are plenty for making even large-scale prints and it is small and light which makes it a lot more portable than cameras like the Canon 50D.

The camera has dust control, live view, 7 autofocus points and can capture consecutive images at 3 photos per second.

The XS is compatible with all Canon EOS lenses (and a lot of third party lenses as well) and it comes bundled in a kit with an 18-55mm Image Stabilized (IS) lens.

You can read more about the Rebel XS 1000D (including reviews) here.
